Saleen Mustang – American Steel at its Best

Saleen was the all American firm who developed and built sports and racing cars which could be used on the track as well as on the road for motoring enthusiasts like you and me. The Saleen Mustang was a car designed specifically to go fast and look good however the first of the models fell very short of living up to the expectations that the people were hoping for. In 1984 the first ever Saleen Mustang was designed and put into action by the developer Steve Saleen.

The first off the line were given stock standard engines from the old Ford motor vehicles so they were more for looks rather than for sporting triumph. Even though the hype was high and the advertising went gang busters the original Saleen Mustang was only eye candy and like most American cars fell apart because of the poor workmanship. Later however the faults were rectified and the car was given a complete makeover including engine, gear box, wiring and décor.

The super charged version of the next generation Saleen had a near 500 horsepower motor in it which was an extra 100+ on top of the original car form 1984. The external design was mostly the same however with the all new V8 supercharged engine there was not a lot of competition from the normal Ford Mustang. The Saleen S302 was built in 2007 which was a very exclusive Mustang to own. Designed by a racing car driver this vehicle was one which brought back the good name to the car manufactures Saleen after so many years of failed projects.

The GT Saleen as well as the Cobra where all counterparts to the Saleen Mustang era which rose high during the good times and was redundant during the hard times. With the recent economic crisis and the president of America calling out for fuel and power reforms this would be a good time to find one of the older Saleen Mustang vehicles and purchase it for yourself before all of the classic cars are taken off the road. In a few years time the Saleen could be classed as vintage or classic which means that you can drive it around on Sundays to car shows and swap meets.

If you are interested in taking a Saleen Mustang for a test drive, looking for parts or just wanting to buy the latest model then all your answers can be found here at American Muscle. These guys have all the knowledge that you will need plus plenty more to keep you thinking about one of the worlds greatest muscle cars.

Ford Mustang is one of the most famous car series in the world, and many models have been produced since the release of the car, in 1964. Almost 20 years later, in 1983, the car racer Steve Saleen founded the Saleen company, which was focused on manufacturing racing cars by using old and used stock Ford engines. So the first Saleen Mustang was released in 1984, but as the years were passing, the performance of the cars was increasing proportionally.

During this time, Steve has won many races due to its Saleen Mustang. Among the most important we can recall the 24 hours of Le Mans, 24 hours of Daytona and numerous SCCA championships. Many Saleen Mustang versions have been released since then, like the S281, the S302 Extreme and the S281 SC. The new models were more and more powerful and people began to love them. Suddenly, everyone was crazy about car races and the Saleen Mustang was admired by everyone who came to see the races live.  In 2007, Parnelli Jones tried to revive the Saleen Mustang legend, so with the help of the company Saleen, he released a limited-edition version of the old-school Saleen Mustang. Parnelli was an American racing legend and had millions of fans, so the car was a success. He confessed that he thought about the Saleen Mustang as the best choice to pay homage to the Boss 302, the legendary car that he had raced back in the 70s. Only 500 of the 2007 Saleen cars were made, and they are also known as the Saleen/Parnelli Jones S302.

Also in 2007, it was the famous movie Transformers that featured a model of the Saleen Mustang. The S281 was drove by one of the characters, called Barricade. In the movie, the Saleen Mustang was a police car, but instead of having ’911′ written on the back bumper, it had ’411′. Due to the success of Transformers, the popularity of the Saleen Mustang rose again and the demand for it began to increase. There is no doubt thus that Saleen Mustang is a car that made history and that will remain forever in the hearts of the car lovers.

There is no doubt that the Saleen Mustang has an excellent design and is a very powerful vehicle overall. The very first model of this car was introduced in 1984 and since then the design has changed and evolved to include many different features, inside and out. The V8 engine which is under the hood of this vehicle has 620 horsepower, an impressive feat for even a Mustang, especially considering that the originally design was built for 465 horsepower. Steve Saleen as well as Pamelli Jones was responsible for designing the first Mustang Saleen back in 2007.

Since Steve Saleen initially designed the first version of the Mustang, he has won a number of races in it; he credits his victories to the sheer power and overall design of the vehicle which has surpassed the expectations of many. One of the reasons that the Saleen Mustang has become so popular across the world is because it was used n the move “Transformers”, used specifically for the character of “Barricade” which was in the form of a police car. After it appeared in the movie, a number of people started buying them. Throughout history mustangs have always had a reputation for being some of the fastest and most stylish looking cars made in America, and this is just another model to check off the list.

Saleen Mustang racing

The saleen mustang was a slightly modified version of the anything but normal Ford Mustang which commenced building in 1964. The Saleen Mustang was not built until 1984 and was design which was meant to add more prestige to the already sporty mustang. It was a racing car driver by the name of Steve Saleen that designed that car as one of the several parties that participated in the Saleen’s construction. Construction started a year before it was released however this was not a concern for the investors because they knew the car was going to be a top seller and good racing machine. Even though the real focus ended up being on the appearance of the new Mustang completely through cosmetics the original 1984 Saleen Mustang ended up with only the 6 cylinder as standard and the V8 as the optional extra. This was a real disappointment to the waiting public who thought that Ford and the other participants were about to release the super cars of all the pony cars but unfortunately it was all sugar coated and the Saleen ended up not selling as well as they had hoped.

As the years went by the Saleen Mustang started to become the car that it was intended to be when they started to put larger, more powerful engines in them as well as gearboxes that were designed for racing. The Saleen was seen in the La Mans race several times which was saying that this car could keep up with any car on the planet. This long and tough race was the perfect road test for the new and improved Saleen Mustang towards the end of the eighties. It was perfect for other long distance racing as well. The 465 hp engine was enough to keep up with any other unmodified sports car but it wasn’t until the 620 hp engine was put in that the car started to really perform both on and off the track. The character Barricade out of the movie Transformers was a Police Saleen Mustang and one of the favorite characters of the bad guys on the bad guy’s side.

A quick look at the Saleen Mustang muscle car

Filed under: Saleen Mustang - 26 Feb 2010  | Spread the word !

The modified version of the muscle car the Mustang is called the Saleen Mustang which is made not only by the Ford manufacturers but also by some other companies around America. The Saleen Mustang is something that is completely different to the standard muscle car and is often qualified as a racing car for certain sport racing events. Having a larger engine capacity and more power the Saleen Mustang can ultimately blow most of the muscle cars in the American and European market out of the water. Not only in looks, power and in style there are many cars that cannot keep up an appearance compared the well refined machine.

The Shelby Mustang and the GT 500 Mustang are also a part of this family which is specifically designed for racing just like the Saleen Mustang is designed for. With all the extra options for racing it is easy to see that the companies spent a lot of time and money improving these vehicles over the years. A straight six cylinder was replaced by the V6 engine and the V8 engines got more and more powerful over the years too. The inside of the engine bay looks like something out of the future and is nothing like the basic models of the 1960s when these cars first came into their prime.

The saleen vehicle was the looker of the fleet which was partly designed to be a head turner as well as a car designed for speed. Even though the original Saleen Mustangs where bulky and sluggish of the line the new modifications are enough to ensure that these cars are quick off the line as well as been able to get to high speed quickly. The average of around 450 horse power pre engine with the modern 6 speed gear box the Saleen also has inner trims that make it more desirable than many other cars in its group. Leathers and other fashionable trims are optional extras and easy enough to change if you own an older model car.

There is a lot to be said about the fact that people with the big money are buying cars from overseas when their own car companies are going bankrupt. The group who designed and engineered the Mustang did a great job in compensating for these reasons by making the car more elegant, more fuel efficient and powerful enough to keep up with the likes of the Porch and BMW’s. Depending on what you are looking for in a Saleen Mustang will ultimately determine the end price of the car. There are different people getting the limited edition model Mustangs which can cost around $90,000 or others that are opting for an early model Saleen and investing some money into these. Most of the cars that you will find on the market are already in good condition however you can also get damaged or neglected cars for a smaller cost and restore them to their former glory.

Looking into the Saleen Mustang

The yellow bumblebee saleen mustang that appeared in the hit movie transformers was sold at auction not so long ago for a average price of US$36,000. This was not a very spectacular sale considering that the car brand new would have cost nearly the same amount of money. The Saleen has a slightly different look about it to the normal mustang that is seen every day on the street which gives it just a bit more style. With a few extra perks to owning this magnificent car you can understand why you need to pay a bit extra.

The saleen comes in a range of modern colors and for a few extra thousand on top you can have it painted the camouflage colors that change color in the light. The Ford Saleen Mustang also has a unique set of wheel trims that are not produced for any other Ford Vehicle as well as other trims inside and out. For such a well designed American car the Saleen Mustang has won its far share of award and is doing the American public proud.

Picking a saleen mustang

Filed under: Saleen Mustang - 25 Aug 2009  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

In seventeen days I will be getting my saleen mustang delivered directly from the factory floor with all the little extras that I ordered a few days ago. It is going to be the ultimate in cars that I have every owned and have more gadgets than my apartment. This car is going to turn every head of people that it drives by and they are going to wish that they had one just like it. I had gotten a custom made two tone electric blue over a touch of white. Not half, half like most two tone colors are because the white was right down the bottom near the sills and there was a strip that runs across the driver’s side bonnet, boot and roof. Inside was also a custom job with the best engine that I could get put under the hood.

The seats were also blue with a white strip down the middle. The dash lights were the blue neon and the dash was a barker blue with white trimmings. To be a tad modest I thought the whole effect came out very nicely. The engine will be the whopping V8, 620 bhp with a six speed manual gearbox. I can’t wait to get it out into the highways and open her up, as long as I’m sure there is nobody looking. I had my choice of wheels trims to go on the car but I did like the mustang versions with the little pony emblem on the hub.
